blue in a happy way

It feels like everyone has a reason to resent 2016- be it personal, social, or political. I've grown up a lot this year and stumbled over myself too many times to count, but I'll always be grateful for any experience that makes me smarter in the end (it's only a mistake if you make it twice, right?).

I used to think of myself as an island- someone who had everything they needed and could do everything on their own. This year I've realized how incredible life can be when you let the right people in and experience all of the ups and downs together.

Instead of listing all of the tragedies and disappointments I remember from this year, I wanted to share a simple message of optimism along with some photos of my friends and me. I'm a strong believer in the power of thoughts; what we think about all the time will eventually become true.

I'm usually the one looking for guidance, but if I can impart any onto you it would be to surround yourself with people who make you feel like you are easy to love.. people you can cut the act around because you know they don't want anything from you. Go find them.

Happy New Year. xxx

The Teddy Coat

Happy Christmas Eve! I spent the day running around like crazy trying to make sure I have everything ready for tomorrow.. it seems like no matter how hard I try there's always things left to the last minute! No complaints though, wandering through Boston during the holidays has always been one of my favorite things to do.

I opted for this fluffy teddy coat, I had a lighter version of it last year but when it got too cold I couldn't wear it anymore. I found this one about a month ago and I haven't stopped wearing it since! I love the texture of it and it's nice and oversized so I can wear all of my chunky sweaters underneath it without any worries.

I paired it with a matching beanie from ASOS (part of my most worn items of 2016), sparkly sweater from Boohoo, ripped jeans, a backpack, and my velvet booties from the PD x HB collection at Public Desire. I fell in love with these shoes the second I saw them, they're so unique and look amazing with both casual outfits and nighttime ones.

Best of 2016 // Holiday Recommendations

best of 2016
Now that 2016 is coming to an end, I thought I'd think back on my favorite pieces of the year and share them in a little round up post! These are all items that I've worn on a weekly basis and can be paired with all types of outfits. Many of them are on sale this month too, so take advantage of the discounts before they're gone!

YSL Sac De Jour - If you follow me on anything you've probably seen this bag 1,000+ times.. I finally got it this year after nonstop obsessing and research. Unlike most of my other bags, the sac de jour holds everything I need it to (laptop, camera, wallet, water bottle, makeup bag, snacks.. groceries?!). I'm so glad to have it in my collection! If you don't want to contribute to the leather industry directly you can get second hand sac de jour's (and tons of other bags) here on Vestiaire Collective!

Quay High Key sunglasses - Finding the perfect oversized aviators is hard, sometimes they get too oversized and result in bug status.. I ended up choosing this pair from Quay and I love them! I have the mirrored pair but they also come in plain black.

Boohoo scuba cross bralet - I only got this one recently, but I've already thought of so many styling ideas for it! Swapping a regular tank / cami with one of these can elevate a casual outfit into something more unique and put together.

Acne Studios Canada Scarf - This was on my list from last year too, but I still haven't stopped wearing it.. these scarves are definitely in the category of investment pieces (aka expensive but worthwhile). I can't imagine a winter where I won't want to wear them.

Public Desire Presley boots - I wear black boots almost exclusively (especially during the fall / winter time), and these are my most worn pair. The heel height is perfect and I love the extra bit of height they have around the ankle. No matter what new shoes I get I always end up going back to these!

Rag & Bone jeans - These are the best jeans out there; they have the perfect amount of stretch, don't fade, and have the perfect high rise fit. They are on the expensive side though, so take time when you pick your size and make sure you get the perfect pair!

Petite Megan Double Layer MA1 Bomber Jacket - 2016 was the year of the bomber jacket, and this one is by far my favorite. The double zip and orange lining details made it stand out for me, and it's super padded so I can wear it even on the coldest days.

Pieces Knitted Beanie with Cashmere - ASOS beanies will always be my go-to, and this specific one by Pieces is all I've been wearing lately! I love the slouchy fit of it and the bright white stands out perfectly with my dark outfits.

Adidas Campus sneakers - After all of the hype of the Adidas superstars last year I decided to get a new style instead of replacing my superstars exactly. I ended up being happier with these, mostly because the suede fabric looks a little more put together than worn leather, plus they're much less common.

Tobi Norie hoodie - I originally got this hoodie from Tobi during our blogging collaboration, but I ended up wearing all the time (mostly to school and the gym). Hoodies can often look unflattering and bulky, but this one is cut in a super feminine way and has the most amazing flared sleeves!

Stella McCartney Falabella backpack - Stella McCartney is one of the best designers out there in my opinion, and she has earned the #1 spot in my heart for her Falabella line which is 100% cruelty free! I am so proud to support a designer who has managed to maintain her ethics in an industry that doesn't cater to vegan-made products at all. This backpack was the first Stella McCartney piece I owned and I still use it religiously.

Stella McCartney Elyse Platforms - My Stella collection expanded into shoes this year with these platform oxfords.. originally I thought these looked too crazy for everyday wear, but of course (like all of her designs) they grew on me.

ASOS Farleigh jeans - I swear by these jeans 100% (and recommend them to anyone who asks!). Mom jeans / vintage style jeans are definitely hit or miss, if they're too tight they can look super unflattering in the worst areas, and if they're too loose they end up looking like average boyfriend jeans. The Farleigh jeans give off the vintage vibe but unlike old school sizing, you can get accurate measuments to ensure a flawless fit.

Laced Jeans + Bomber Jackets

I had been searching everywhere for a pair of lace up jeans when I finally gave up and decided to ask for help on instagram... within an hour my entire inbox was full of messages directing me to! I was a little nervous about the sizing on these jeans because they carry xsmall-large instead of waist measurements, but my pair ended up fitting perfectly (if you're around a 25-26 in denim, go for a small). I love them so much- I might have to get them in white too.

The rest of my outfit is super inspired by the most recent Alexander Wang collection- specifically this black bomber with orange lining and this cropped bralette. His pieces are always the perfect mix of masculine and feminine, I can't get enough. Unfortunately my bank account wasn't ready for A Wang prices, so my friends at Boohoo came through with the alternatives (as they always do).

I ordered this bomber jacket in a petite size because I love the look of cropped jackets paired with high rise jeans; as long as the fit of the pieces is right I think winter outfits can be equally as flattering as a sundress in the spring. Along with the bomber & bralette, I finished off the outfit with my go-to boots and bag- the YSL Sac De Jour and my PD Presley boots (I seriously wear both of these items almost everyday).

The Kyla Parka // FLC x Noize

Kyla Parka by Noize
Zara sweater (sold out, similar sweater here)
Rag & Bone jeans
Saint Laurent bag
Zara boots
Quay Sunglasses

Winter in Boston isn't easy to handle, especially as a student who needs to be in class every morning regardless of the conditions. I've tried all types of coats over the years.. long, short, light, dark, puffy, fur, hooded, suede, almost everything. Without a doubt, this parka by Noize has been one of the warmest pieces of outerwear I own!

Oftentimes I'll end up freezing out in the street in order to get the perfect photo, but in this case I was actually warm taking winter photos for once, I could get used to that. I wear this parka everywhere: school, the gym, work, getting groceries.. I even wore it over my dress to the club (no shame here).

My favorite part of the Noize brand is that all of their pieces are made cruelty free with environmentally friendly materials. Shop my favorite pieces from their current collection here!
