The Outerwear Series: Cape Coats

This fall / winter season I'll be covering my favorite outerwear in 'The Outerwear Series'. My goal is to include jackets and coats that are both on trend, somewhat classic and very wearable for everyday. As it gets colder and we bundle up more, the biggest statement one can make is with their outerwear.

For the first post, I chose this cape coat from Forever 21. Cape coats are one of the biggest a/w trends this season, showing in lines from Chloe, Versache, Burberry and Miu Miu. Although it's quite a price increase for Forever 21's normal pieces, I'd say it's worth it. I love the boucle material and the length is perfect! It also has a detachable fur collar that I may put to use soon. A cape coat is a really unique piece but easy to style at the same time.

I chose to wear mine with these amazing embroidered leather pants from Blank NYC. They're the perfect contrast to the boucle material, and I love their ankle cut (also an added bonus, Gigi Hadid has them too! haha). I kept the rest of the outfit very simple with my Stella McCartney Falabella bag and Dolce Vita oxfords.

Cowl Knit // The Design Republik

The seasons are finally changing, making this cowl neck sweater a perfect fit for the day. Sweaters and jeans with either boots or sneakers is one of my favorite casual outfit combinations, but I decided to switch it up a bit by wearing an all white / cream version. This knit is from The Design Republik, a NYC based brand, and I never want to take it off. It's made of wool and is the perfect amount of oversized without being baggy looking. When the city cools off even more I'll definitely be pairing it with some winter coats and boots!

Snapchat: Florencia9595

I'm a little bit (okay maybe a lot bit?) late on the snapchat train, but I have one now! My name is Florencia9595, shout out to the person who took Florencia95 before I could.. I hope you are using that name responsibly! Here are some snaps I saved, nothing remarkable but isn't that the point of snapchat?! I could be wrong, I'm new at this. Add me if you'd like to! Xx Flo

Seasonal Transition

Every season there are thousands of 'it' pieces; depending on which magazine you read, there is a new must have item to complete your wardrobe. Recently I've subscribed to Harpers Bazaar magazine, which has been a fun read for me. Before this I had consumed most of my fashion information online through blogs, websites and social apps, which is a very raw and stripped down version of the style world.

I love the gorgeous photography in Harper's as well as the professional voice, but one thing I value immensely about online fashion is the lack of urgency for the 'it' piece. There is still a focus on things that are trending, but it's more about working your preferred trends into your current wardrobe instead of buying an entirely new wardrobe every season.

This difference got me thinking about which pieces I found essential and exciting when moving in the current fall / winter season. Sneakers have been a staple for me for as long as I can remember, but for fall / winter, I've been into wearing Adidas classics (the Campus sneakers in grey & the Superstars in black and white). They remind me of an oxford shoe in a weird way... maybe because they maintain a similar structured look no matter how many times you wear them.

Trend-conscious or not, everyone needs a winter coat. I live in Boston so finding a cool coat that can keep you warm on a harsh winter day has been a constant challenge. This year I'm overjoyed to have the Bear Jacket by Blank NYC in my hands, it has the shape of an oversized moto jacket and the fluffy material of a blanket to keep me warm. Along with staying cozy, I picked up two Acne Studios 'Canada' scarves (in grey & navy) to pair with any coat or jacket.

Another everyday essential that I've been into is my Eden bag by Linea Pelle. This one works for all seasons, but by adding some pom pom keychains (I got a few from Primark recently!) you can give it a really cute winter-y feel.

I hope this helps you find those special pieces to work into your A/W wardrobe! What do you think about the difference between the traditional fashion media like magazines and the up-and-coming online fashion media? Has either influenced your style?

Hi Primark!

Primark opened their four story Downtown Crossing store this week and I had to go check it out! I've always been a big fan of European style and bloggers from the UK, making Primark a sadly unattainable but lusted after shop for me. All week I'd seen advertisements for the store across the city and in the train stations, I couldn't wait to go... and it exceeded my expectations to say the least!

There was a line to get in because of the giant turn out but it wasn't too long, and all of the Primark employees were so helpful and kind. It was hard to see everything because the store is huge, but I fell in love with all of their fall pieces (over the knee boots, beanies, sweaters, dresses, sneakers and floppy hats).

In addition to clothes, Primark had a huge home section full of cozy and minimal style pillows, decor and kitchenware! I was in heaven; even though I have most of what I need for my apartment, it's so fun to look at everything. I can't wait to go back again and see everything I missed the first time.

The Grey Duster Coat

In my fall trend forecast post I mentioned duster coats being one of my favorite pieces, and this grey one from Forever 21 is my current go to. Duster coats are the perfect piece to transition from summer to fall, you can style them with shorts, jeans, skirts and even dresses. I chose to pair mine with a graphic tee, high rise jeans, printed slip ons and my favorite satchel bag.
